This incredible living history museum allows visitors to take a step back in time and catch a glimpse at that early Acadian life was like from 1765 to 1890. The 23-acre site is a history lover’s paradise, and certainly worthy of a road trip from any corner of the state. There also happens to be an incredible little restaurant nestled within this historic spot that’s serving up some of the most authentic Cajun cuisine you’ve ever tasted. Let’s check it out.
As you’re walking through Vermilionville, be on the lookout for a delightful little restaurant called La Cuisine de Maman.
The exterior is just begging you to go inside.
This charming restaurant is certainly one of the most unique in the state. The dining rooms are serviced by staff in period costumes, making you feel like you’ve been transported through time.
When it comes to the menu, be prepared to feast on some of the most authentic Cajun food around.
In addition to Louisiana favorites like jambalaya, red beans and rice, and hearty po’boys, they also feature daily plate lunches like chicken with spinach and feta cream sauce, pictured below.
On the weekends, they offer a buffet with even more Cajun and Creole options.
Pile your plate sky high with Cajun favorites like étouffée and shrimp creole, and, of course, fantastic sides like beans, corn, greens, and fluffy biscuits.
