While Louisiana summers may be brutal, one of the perks of living in the Pelican State is that we don’t experience the harsh winters that our friends in the north do, so we can enjoy outdoor adventures pretty much year-round. There’s one lake, in particular, that’s one of the most peaceful and beautiful lakes in Louisiana, and no matter what time of year you visit, you’ll be met with unbelievably calming scenery. If you ever need a change of scenery and a moment of tranquility, this is the lake for you.
Caney Creek Lake is a 5,000-acre man-made reservoir located in northern Louisiana.
There are many ways to enjoy this beautiful lake, and our favorite is by visiting Jimmie Davis State Park.
The park sits on a peninsula, so you’ll have many opportunities to see the lake from different vantage points.
No matter what time of year you visit, the lake just gets more and more beautiful.
Just look at those vibrant autumn hues!
In the summertime, cooling off in the water is always a refreshingly fun way to spend the day.
There's also a splash pad that overlooks the lake. Plus, the little stretch of beach just completes the package. A beach trip away from the coast?! Yep!
There are plenty of shaded areas to sit back and enjoy the view.
Pack a lunch and enjoy a picnic on the lake!
Fishing is also a popular pastime, and there are few things more calming than dropping a line in the water and waiting to reel in your prized catch.
Of course, nothing beats the tranquility of a lakefront sunset, and the sunsets on Caney Lake are some of the best in the state.
The dock provides an epic front-row seat to the sky show, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the view!
Jimmie Davis State Park also offers cabin rentals as well as primitive tent camping and RV hook-ups. If you'd like to turn your day trip into a weekend getaway, visit the Jimmie Davis State Park website for rates and availability. There are so many beautiful lakes in Louisiana, which one is your favorite?
