Spending time outdoors is always a good idea, and especially if you're surrounded by some of Louisiana's most beautiful scenery. For an epic outdoor exploration that will challenge even the most experienced hiker (or cyclist), you'll want to put the Tammany Trace on your bucket list. It's one of the most beautiful trails in the state, and you'll fall in love with all of the charming towns you'll pass through along the way.
Winding through some of St. Tammany Parish’s most beautiful towns, the Tammany Trace is a picture-perfect paved trail that’s beautiful year-round.
Clocking in at 31 miles, the Trace is Louisiana’s only rail-to-trail conversion, and it's the longest paved trail in the state.
Whether you decide to walk, rollerblade, or bike the trail, you’re in for quite the scenic outing.
Along the way, you’ll be met with stunning scenery including beautiful bayous, rivers, and lakes.
If you decide to do the entire trail, you’ll pass through five Northshore towns: Covington, Mandeville, Abita Springs, Lacombe, and Slidell.
Each town has its own trailhead and there are several restaurants and shops near each trailhead.
Stop off along the way and explore some of these beautiful towns - you might just stumble into a delightful farmers market where you can pick up some fun finds!
But even if you decide to tackle the trail in sections, you can always park at one of the trailheads and go for as long as you can before turning around.
Keep challenging yourself so you can eventually do the entire 31 miles in one go!
