It’s time to stop and smell the flowers. If you’re looking for a road trip the whole family will love, this sunflower trail is just the ticket. Located in northern Louisiana, this lovely little drive will show you some of the most incredible sunflower fields in Louisiana. Let’s check it out.
One of the most unique and colorful road trips you can take in Louisiana is driving the Sunflower Trail in a tiny town called Gilliam.
From Shreveport, you’ll want to head north on Clyde Want Memorial Parkway which will take you right onto LA Hwy 3049 (Dixie Shreveport Road).
You’ll start to see signs as you get closer to the fields.
Every year, Gilliam hosts the annual Sunflower Festival, which draws crowds from all over and features local crafts and food.
The trail is roughly 20 miles of beautiful countryside, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the view.
There are several sunflower fields peppered along the drive. Most of them are located on Hwy 3049 between Shreveport and Gilliam, as well as on the Sentell Road Loop.
You’ll also come across several fields that are open to the public, which is a great moment to stop and stretch your legs.
The sunflowers also make an incredibly beautiful background for a photo shoot.
The flowers typically bloom in June and stick around for several weeks at least, so you have plenty of time to plan out your road trip.
Just don’t wait too long, or you’ll miss your opportunity to see these beauties!
Another one of our favorite places to visit in Louisiana is Fontainebleau State Park. Learn more about why this nature area is so fascinating in this video:
