It's one thing to go through a haunted house, but it's quite another when it's actually haunted by ghosts. The Mortuary has an interesting (and dark) history and many believe that there are still spirits that wander the halls. So if you have the guts to go to this haunted house, you may encounter more than just a paid actor.
There are haunted houses, and then there’s this haunted house.
Surrounded by the "Cities of the Dead", this historic mansion on Canal Street was originally built in 1872 as a private residence.
By the 1930s, it had changed ownership and became a full service funeral home, PJ McMahon and Sons.
It’s estimated that over 20,000 funerals were performed at PJ McMahon and Sons in the 50 years it was operational.
Not surprisingly, the mansion has developed the reputation for being haunted. There have been many reports of ghostly sightings and unexplained phenomenon in the building.
Reports include seeing a woman in white crying on the top floor, an apparition of a tall, well-dressed man, many sightings of two young children who are known to play pranks, footsteps, disembodied voices.
The mansion’s haunted reputation drew the attention from paranormal investigators.
Several investigative teams have come through the 14,000 square foot, 3-story mansion and have come away with some crazy images and EVPs (electronic voice phenomenon).
Open from late September until the first weekend in November, The Mortuary is one of the most popular haunted houses in the city.
It's not everyday that you get to go through an actual haunted house.
They change the theme every year. This year's theme?
PHOBIAS.
Spiders, snakes, small spaces, darkness… You’ll have to face your fears to get through this haunted attraction.
