Once a year, the Baton Rouge area is filled with endless hot air balloons that fill up the sky. This year, the festival takes place at the end of September, and you're not going to want to miss it. Bring the whole family out, because this magical hot air balloon festival near New Orleans will light up your summer, and it's only a few weeks away. Let's check it out.
The Ascension Hot Air Balloon Festival returns for another year of fun on September 27-29 at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales.
The two day festival is chock-full of fun and quirky hot air balloons from pilots all across the country.
You’ll have the opportunity to talk with the pilots, learn about hot air balloons, and maybe even take a tethered ride.
There will be more than fifteen hot air balloons at the festival, including several specialty shaped balloons the kids will love.
The family friendly event also has a carnival and tons of local vendors that will be out selling delicious food and drinks. Some of the vendors this year include Raising Cane’s, Big Cheesy, Boomin’ Cajun Food Truck, and many others.

After you’ve ridden all the carnival rides and eaten some delicious food, stick around until dusk.
The hot air balloon glow happens from 7 p.m. till 8:30 p.m. on both nights of the festival, and you won’t want to miss it.
