There are a lot of restaurants that are said to have some extra spirits wandering around, but perhaps none is as infamous as Muriel's restaurant on Jackson Square. This legendary haunted restaurant in New Orleans is filled with hidden secrets that are sure to give you a thrill!
Muriel's prime location in New Orleans has made it part of the history of the city from the very beginning.
Originally, the location was the home of one of the original explorers that helped found New Orleans, Claude Trepagnier. Some of his servants who lived in this area are said to haunt the area.
Later, the 1788 fire burned down the grand home that had been built there, and Pierre Antoine Lepardi purchased the property.
Lepardi was known for a love of grandeur, and he built the structure that is still in place today.
Pierre Antoine built his dream home, and all seemed well.
But underneath, he had a pernicious gambling habit that threatened everything.
In 1814 he was involved in a high stakes poker game where he wagered his beloved home.
Pierre had lost, and he was completely devastated.
Rather than face the loss head on, Pierre committed suicide in his home, in what is today known as the seance room, pictured here.
Many paranormal investigations have confirmed that his spirit still roams the area here.
Pierre Antoine is just one of a few ghosts that are said to haunt this very historic building.
So not only will you enjoy delicious food and amazing service here, you just may have a spooky experience!
Doesn't that sound spooky? If you haven't been to Muriel's yet to check it out, maybe it's time to make a reservation. And if you're looking for more haunted New Orleans stories, check out our article here about a French Quarter walking tour of haunted spots!
