Sometimes, a stroll down memory lane can be a therapeutic experience. While several of these places just "ain't dere no more," it's neat to see how much of the city has changed, and how much has stayed the same. We've got some nostalgic photos of New Orleans from the 1970s that are totally groovy. So sit back and scroll through some shots of the Big Easy from 50 years ago. Recognize any of the landmarks?
1. Abandoned cars litter the banks of the Mississippi River in the early 1970s.
2. A view from Audubon Park in 1972. Still looks the same!
3. Here’s a snapshot of Chartres Street in the Quarter in 1972.
4. A formal invitation to the Rex Ball in 1971.
5. The sign may have changed, but not much else since this shot was taken in 1973.
6. Jackson Brewery shot from the Moonwalk. Love those old cars!
7. A barge is loaded up with grain in 1976.
8. An empty Bourbon Street shot. Taken at the intersection of Bourbon at St. Louis in 1977.
9. Our beloved Natchez riverboat sitting pretty in 1977.
10. Here’s Basin Street looking towards Canal in 1977.
11. Looks like a writer had some fun with the descriptions of the top ten parades of Mardi Gras in 1975.
12. Some things never change. Ladders line the street for the Rex parade in 1973 with children perched on top for a better view.
13. Tulane Stadium being demolished around 1979 or 1980.
