Louisiana has its fair share of restaurants that have stood the test of time, being passed down from generation to generation. When you're in the mood for one of the best sandwiches you've ever had in a historic atmosphere, then a visit to Fertitta's Delicatessen is in order. They've been serving up the finest sandwiches in Shreveport for decades, and from the moment you step inside you'll feel like you've stepped back in time. Let's take a closer look.
Shreveport’s oldest family-owned restaurant has been around since the 1920s. Originally established as a neighborhood grocery, John and Mary Fulco constructed and opened the business in 1927, and it’s been in the family ever since.
This neighborhood eatery has been a time-honored tradition for so many throughout the years.
It’s one of those places where you feel like family when you walk in. It gets pretty packed during peak hours, so you’ll want to arrive early to ensure a seat.
The Muffy is by far their most popular sandwich, and it’s the one that has kept them in business since they invented it over 50 years ago.
This spin on the traditional muffuletta features a savory mustard, cold cuts, and cheese before being topped with their signature PaPa Fertitta’s olive mix, which you can purchase to go so you can keep a jar in your fridge!
They also offer a few other variations of the original puffy like the Miami Muffy, which is doubled down with extra meat and cheese, and the Sicilian Muffy which is a vegetarian option.
They even offer a lighter option which swaps the cold cuts out for turkey breast.
