We all have those moments when you just start dreaming about escaping to a more natural landscape. While you may not always have the schedule to travel across the country, there are plenty of places in Louisiana that provide a quiet escape, like Valentine Lake. Tucked away from all the noise of larger cities, Valentine Lake is an ideal spot to spend a day or two enjoying the views and recharging your inner batteries.
Valentine Lake is located within the Kisatchie National Forest.
You've got a few different options for enjoying this scenic lake.
The Valentine Lake Recreation Area is perfect for day trips, where you can pack a lunch and enjoy a lakefront picnic.
Or bring a hammock and a good book!
There's a quick and easy loop trail that follows the lake for a good bit before heading into the forest.
The trail is just shy of two miles and fairly easy as far as Louisiana hiking trails are concerned. Just remember that these primitive trails are at the mercy of Mother Nature, so if you visit after a storm, you may be trekking through some mud or climbing over tree limbs.
For an entirely new perspective, bring your kayak or canoe and paddle around the lake.
If you'd like to extend your stay, head over to the north side of the lake to find the campground section.
There are 14 campsites here, and six of them have waterfront views. Each campsite has a picnic table, lantern post, and a fire ring. There are restrooms located at the campground, too, so you won’t be completely backcountry camping.
Just imagine waking up to this view.
Not bad, right?
Visit the Forest Service's website for more information about camping opportunities at Valentine Lake. This is just one of many spots around Louisiana where you can get away from it all and enjoy Louisiana's natural scenery. Check out these state parks in Louisiana for more picture-perfect paradises.
