Wine is one of those drinks that speaks for itself. Most people think California when it comes to wine, but Kentucky has a nice selection of vineyards and wineries as well. Mind you, most ours aren’t massive, like an Italian winery, but they do produce some of the tastiest nectars you will ever put in your mouth.
Here are 10 of Kentucky’s finest wineries:
10. Cave Hill Vineyard
2115 Smith Road in Eubank is home to this vineyard and winery that invites guests to sit for samples, and hosts a beautiful place for events, like weddings.
9. Forest Edge Winery
This small business is located in Shepherdsville on 1910 Clermont Road. It has some smooth, delightful blends, some of which are unusual.
8. Kentucky Hilltop Vineyards
This beautiful vineyard is located at 2215 Cline Road in Scottsville and makes a great gathering place with delightful wines.
7. Misty River Vineyard
The exceptional winery with acres of fruit is located at 321 Kappes Drive in Alexandria.
6. Monte Cassino Vineyard and Winery
Once ran by Benedictine Monks in the 1800s, this newly revamped vineyard in Covington offers a gorgeous hillside view overlooking Peaselburg.
5. Noah's Ark Winery
This small winery in Upton is located off 1079, and offers visitors some of the juiciest wines in Kentucky. The Vineyard is in Hart County, a cave rich area, making the soil and its nutrients perfect for growing succulent fruits to create delicious wines.
4. Purple Toad Winery and Vineyard
Located on 4275 Old US Hwy 45 S in Paducah, this local winery invites visitors to walk among the fruit and then sit down for samples.
3. Rock Springs Vineyards and Winery
Grapes are grown in Carter County and this winery is located at 1081 Rock Springs Road in Grayson. Appointments are preferred here, but it is well worth the visit. All fruit is handpicked for quality and inspected before going into the batch.
2. Ruby Moon Winery
This is a small farm that evolved into a winery located on 9566 US 41 Alt in Henderson. This is one of Kentucky’s true hidden gems that many return visitors found initially on accident.
1. White Buck Vineyards and Winery
This delightful winery is on 1800 US 60 in Morganfield and despite a slow beginning in 2011, it is now a popular place to enjoy a fragrant, fruity bottle of their best.
Though we are known more for Bourbon, Bluegrass wine is also quite fine. There are days when sipping a nice Red can be tastier and more appropriate then a shot of Bourbon… for some. Realistically, almost everyone occasionally "needs" a drink. If you have a favored Kentucky winery not on this list, please share in the comments below.
