There was once a time when everyone slowed down, put away their work and took their afternoon tea. It was a recharge of sorts and a way to reconnect and refuel for the remainder of the day. Thankfully, there are several places throughout Kentucky that still believe in this tradition and they are keeping it alive today. Step back in time in these classic and modern charming tea rooms for a piece of the past.

Northeast of Louisville, you'll find a tranquil oasis at Sisters Tea Parlor & Boutique. They invite you to "sip, savor, and splurge" and it's the perfect setting to do so. Relax with an exotic cup of tea, a sweet or savory treat and push your worries aside. The Parlor is open Monday - Saturday 10am - 5pm and on Sunday for special events only.

The Sword & the Scone earns the award for the most creative name of the tea rooms on our list. This large tea parlor is open Monday - Saturday at 10am, with the last seating at 5pm. Reservations are highly recommended for their beautifully presented menu and tea. The Parlor & Boutique also hosts a number of events - many of the them for children - and is a wonderful place to make memories.

6. Pipers Tea & Coffee - 3121 Broadway St. Paducah, KY 42001

For a modern take on the traditional tea room, head to Paducah's Pipers Tea & Coffee. The vintage vibe is perfectly placed inside a historic Coca-Cola Plant and they serve handcrafted loose leaf teas, as well as coffee and other beverages and treats.

I Tried Some of the Best Pancakes in the US at Con Huevos in Kentucky 

I visited Con Huevos on Frankfort Avenue to try their award-winning Tres Leches Pancakes. I loved their fluffy texture and the delicious tres leches syrup. I can't wait to return to try other fantastic breakfast dishes.

I love keeping up with what's new and exciting in Louisville. Every once in a while, however, I miss a fantastic local restaurant. I'm embarrassed to admit I had never been to the beloved Mexican breakfast restaurant, Con Huevos. I had to correct this mistake right away. So, one recent autumn morning, I treated myself to an incredible breakfast at Con Huevos on Frankfort Ave in Louisville.

Con Huevos opened in the spring of 2015 on Frankfort Avenue. The small restaurant seated only 21 people, but the business has grown remarkably since then. There are now five locations across Louisville: on Hurstbourne Lane, in Norton Commons, in Holiday Manor, the OMNI Hotel, and on Frankfort Avenue. The restaurant has collected impressive accolades, including being listed 8th in the top 25 places to eat pancakes in the U.S. by Travel and Leisure in 2018.

I knew I had to try the restaurant's legendary Tres Leches Pancakes, but the menu had so many fantastic options that I briefly considered ordering more than one meal. The Churro Waffle, Huevos Rancheros, and Burrito Gordo with eggs, potatoes, chipotle cream, and Oaxaca cheese were particularly tempting. I was impressed by the variety of options, from omelets to French toast and breakfast sandwiches. I stuck to my original plan, however, and ordered the award-winning pancakes and coffee.

While I waited for my food, I enjoyed Con Huevos' friendly and upbeat atmosphere. The restaurant was bright, with big windows facing Frankfort Avenue and lively, energetic music playing overhead. Several people ate alone as they worked, while others dined in small groups. It's a great place for a casual breakfast with a friend or a morning meeting.

It didn't take long for my food to arrive. The friendly waitstaff delivered a pile of three thick and fluffy pancakes covered in fresh bananas and strawberries and the signature white, creamy Mexican tres leches syrup. The pancakes had a fantastic texture, and the syrup was perfectly sweet. The syrup was a little thinner than maple syrup, allowing the pancakes to soak it up in the most delicious way. The coffee was dark and rich, perfect for the chilly morning.

I loved the breakfast and can't wait to return. Although I'd love to check out some of the restaurant's other locations, I bet the Frankfort Avenue spot is hard to beat. It's a lively street, with plenty of walkers and cars going by.

I May Just Fly in on My Broomstick to try Witches Brew Coffee on Frankfort Avenue

I visited this Frankfort Avenue coffee shop just after its opening and loved their coffee and magical atmosphere.

Frankfort Avenue, in Louisville's Clifton neighborhood, just got a bit spookier. Witches Brew Coffee opened in August 2024 to the delight of lovers of witchy vibes and coffee. In its opening days, the shop created quite a spectacle. Customers dressed as witches on brooms gathered at the shop, and lines of more typically dressed customers reached down Frankfort Avenue on weekend mornings. With fall and Halloween approaching, I had to visit Witches Brew Coffee for myself.

On a late Friday morning, I headed to Frankfort Avenue, an energetic and dynamic part of town. I walked up to Witches Brew Coffee and saw the bright purple building and people outside taking selfies. I walked inside and secured a place in line, about 12 people back. A team of baristas, sometimes referred to by management as the "coffee coven," worked quickly behind the counter.

As I waited in line, I took in the plethora of mystical, creepy, and metaphysical items hanging on the shop's walls. There was a shelf of old-fashioned dolls, some with black circles around their eyes, and a sign that said Home Sweet Haunted Home. A row of brooms hung on the wall just above a "Cabinet of Curiosities and Oddities." The cabinet included several skeletons, statues, and an Ouija board.

I studied the shop's menu. It offered many standard coffee drinks, like lattes, cold brews, Americanos, teas, and energizers. There was also a specialty drink menu with awesome witchy names. Drinks like Black Magic, Morning Ritual, Dragons Blood, and Poison Apple grabbed my attention. I ordered a large caramel latte and was excited to compare it to those of other coffee shops I've tried.

While I waited for my drink, I checked out the items for sale near the coffee counter. Many were intriguing, like the Intention Floor Wash, Magick Salts, Attraction Candles, Black Salt Protection Bath, and Milk Bath. There were also stones, sage bundles, and varieties of incense for sale.

Before I knew it, my caramel latte was ready. It was superb, with a light texture and deep caramel flavor. It was mildly sweet and wonderfully warm—the perfect temperature for sipping. I can't wait to return and try the specialty drinks.

Mariah Wilson Tran owns Witches Brew Coffee with her husband, Lee. Wilson Tran provides tarot readings to customers in a small second-floor space above the coffee shop.

Frankfort Avenue is a bustling part of Louisville, with much to see, do, and eat! Pretty Decent is a terrific all-in-one plant store and cocktail bar, and Varanese is an American restaurant that made our list of 11 must-visit Louisville restaurants. The Waterfront Botanical Gardens, a 23-acre garden with native plants, water features, and accessible pathways, is also nearby.
