What’s the best part about a Kentucky road trip? Visiting amazing Kentucky restaurants! In Frankfort, Kentucky, there is an unassuming roadside stop that’s not only a nostalgic blast from the past, but it also has what is arguably the *best* fried bologna sandwich in the world.
Located along Old Lawrenceburg Road, a Bluegrass backroad that runs parallel to the Kentucky River, Cliffside Diner is a tiny, old-school American joint with a 1950s dining-car vibe, counter seating, and a delicious menu.
Grab a laminated menu at this humble little roadside stop; get comfy in your vinyl booth, and settle in for a delightful and delicious dining experience.
"Classic diner fare" is the name of the game here, and the burger menu does not disappoint. Choose from singles, doubles, cheese and/or bacon topped... your bespoke burger awaits!
Hands down, however, the best and most *Kentucky* item on the menu is the fried bologna. Is there anything more delicious than a fried bologna sandwich?
It's a Kentucky classic, and Cliffside Diner does it right. The underrated lunchmeat is salty and juicy and perfectly cooked. Served on a toasted bun with melted cheddar cheese, this is peak road trip food, friends.
Of course, if you're an early bird and it's time for breakfast, you can't go wrong with the country fried steak and eggs. Oh, and the biscuits here? Melt-in-your-mouth delicious!
Don’t let hangry happen to you on the road; make Cliffside Diner a featured stop on your next road trip! (PS: We pass right by this delightful diner on this Fall Foliage Road Trip.)
