Chances are, you've heard of this infamous hospital, located atop a hill, overlooking Maysville, Kentucky. This abandoned building has been sitting - and deteriorating - for years now, and over time it's become the source of plenty of ghost stories and tales. But, you've likely never seen photos of Hayswood Hospital that are quite as staggering as these, taken by Maysville Photographer Amanda of Juney B. Designs. She takes us inside this creepy space, like you've never before seen.
In Maysville, Kentucky, overlooking the Ohio River, is the former Hayswood Hospital. The building has quite a history that dates back to 1915 (the property dates back even further). It was built as the Hayswood Seminary, but was changed to the hospital in 1923.
The small hospital was open until 1983, when it closed its doors thanks to the addition of a larger facility nearby. Since then, no one seems to know what to do with it.
Throughout the halls, you'll see signs of what the hospital once was, like this call light dangling from the ceiling. Time and exposure to weather have both caused major damage to the building's interior.
This is a photo of a former children's patient room in the hospital. It's remarkable how some aspects of the walls and equipment appear untouched, while others are completely demolished.
Of course, given the state of the building, the tales of hauntings and ghostly presence are widely discussed. With images like this one of an old tub, you can imagine why.
As you look through these captivating photos, you can imagine the medicine given, operations performed and nurses and doctors bustling about to their patients.
Neighbors of the hospital, as well as paranormal groups, have reported many instances of ghostly activity. From lights going on and off to figures peering out from the windows, it's safe to say this abandoned hospital still has a few inhabitants.
Years later, there are still signs of the medicine once practiced. The building and property have been sold and studied for both a rehabilitation and a complete tear down, but both options are very expensive.
So far, no one has been able to take the leap and make a decision on what to do with Hayswood. This is a photo of an old nurses' station that remains somewhat in tact.
Ironically, the view from the hospital is one of the best in the city. From the windows, you can look down on Maysville and the Ohio River.
Before you get an ideas of trying to get your own staggering photos of Hayswood, be forewarned. It is private property and is not open to the public. It is illegal to enter the grounds and the building, as well as dangerous, given the state of the former hospital. Thankfully, we have these images to satisfy our curiosity of what lurks inside this abandoned hilltop hospital.
Who knows how long Hayswood Hospital will sit like this, but hopefully it will find its purpose soon. For now, we will gaze at these staggering photos and imagine what the building once was. Do you have any tales from this hospital? Share your thoughts in the comments!
