But those of us who live here know what we have and appreciate the natural wonders, scattered across the Bluegrass State. There are picturesque views, buildings, small towns, and hiking trails everywhere you turn, but these 11 unimaginably beautiful places should top your must-see list in Kentucky.
1. Mammoth Cave
What is a list of Kentucky's most beautiful places without Mammoth Cave? The longest cave system in the world is a natural wonder that attracts many visitors from all over. But locals should definitely not forget about this ultimate Kentucky Bucket List item.
2. Louisville's Big Four Bridge At Night
The eye-catching Big Four Bridge in Louisville connects Waterfront Park to Jeffersonville, Indiana over the Ohio River. It's one of the most recognizable features of Kentucky's largest city and since 2013, has been a popular destination for pedestrians to wander across. To see it lit up at night is magical and a beautiful place in the Bluegrass State.
3. Red River Gorge in the Fall
Red River Gorge is an international hiking destination right here in Kentucky. The views from the many overlooks are breathtaking, especially in the fall. Visit the Gorge often, but make sure you visit during peak color at least once in your life.
4. Old Frankfort Pike
Arguably the most beautiful road in Kentucky, Old Frankfort Pike is a picturesque, scenic drive from Lexington to Frankfort. You'll meander through rolling hills, charming horse farms, stone fencing and tree-lined streets. It's truly the heart of the Bluegrass State.
5. Cumberland Falls
Known as the "Niagara of the South," Cumberland Falls is definitely one of the most photogenic and beautiful places in Kentucky. It's beautiful year round and if you time it right for a night hike, you may even catch a glimpse of the famous Moonbow, which really deserves its own spot on this list.
6. Kentucky Lake at Sunset
Kentucky skies are magical, especially on the banks of Kentucky Lake at sunset. Head to Grand Rivers for this spectacular view and be amazed at the beauty of our state.
7. Natural Bridge
Kentucky's most spectacular rock formation is a must-see beautiful destination. Make sure to see the wonder of it from below, as well as the views once you reach the bridge, itself. It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
8. Pineville, Kentucky
This small Kentucky mountain town is surrounded by some of the most beautiful landscape in the entire state. In fact, you should probably just book at a stay at the lovely Pine Mountain State Resort Park and spend a few days exploring places like Chain Rock, Laurel Cove, and the sweeping valley views.
9. Land Between the Lakes
This area of Kentucky has some of the most diverse collection of landscape and wildlife in the state. It's a different experience than one up in the mountains or within rock formations, but it's just as mesmerizing.
10. Berea, Kentucky
The town of Berea and its surrounding Pinnacles offer some of the best hiking and views in Kentucky. From Eagle's Nest, pictured above, you feel as if you can step out and walk atop the fog, hovering over the valley.
11. Bardstown in the Winter
Bardstown has been called the most beautiful small town in America and for good reason. Its Main Street is overwhelmingly charming and a visit to My Old Kentucky Home, shown above, is a must. The town is idyllic all year long, but it has a certain magic and appeal when there's freshly fallen snow.
