If you type into Google, "What is Kentucky famous for?" the first thing that pops up is horse racing. This comes at no surprise and because of this long-running tradition, the Bluegrass State is filled with many picturesque horse farms. There is one particular farm that is recognizable by almost every Kentuckian and is surely one of the most photographed farms in the country. Manchester Farm is an iconic horse farm in Kentucky and if you enjoy scenic places in our state, you'll love every one of these photos of the farm, taken by photographer Greg Grayson.
Iconic Manchester Farm dates back to the 1700s and is one of the most recognizable places in the state.
The property sits adjacent to Keeneland Race Track on Rice Road in Lexington.
If you've ever driven through the area, especially for the first time, the site of this farm likely took your breath away.
The picture-perfect barn, built in 1984, sits atop a hill, making it the ideal subject of photos meant to show off the beauty of horse country.
The white barn with blue trim is so perfectly Kentucky and is picturesque all year long.
This angle of the barn is often photographed and beautifully shows off the farm and its stunning residents.
But any angle of the farm is worth a photo, and you'll find proof of that in the next three images.
Manchester Farm was purchased by Mike G. Rutherford in 1976 and he's seen much success raising top horses throughout the years.
In early 2016, Manchester Farm was sold to Brad Kelly, owner of the famous Calumet Farm, another iconic horse farm in Kentucky.
But Kelly has allowed Rutherford to retain possession of the main 126 acres of Manchester Farm for five years or until February of 2022.
Rutherford's main residence is in Houston, but his love and passion for Kentucky is undeniable thanks to the care he's put into this incredible farm.
Manchester Farm has been the backdrop of many movies and commercials over the years, including scenes from Gone with the Wind.
And of course it's been featured in countless publications from Southern Living to Travel and Leisure Magazine.
But Kentuckians know this farm as the heart of horse country and an iconic place in our state.
Its picturesque barn cannot take a bad photo and we'll always appreciate any image snapped of this gorgeous Kentucky horse farm.
We can't get enough of this picturesque place in the Bluegrass and it's easy to see why this iconic horse farm in Kentucky is one of the most photographed in the country. Have you driven past Manchester Farm? What is your favorite horse farm in Kentucky? Let us know in the comments!
