There are plenty of burger and sandwich shops almost everywhere we go, but where are the "really" good sandwiches places? Most of the big chains just offer the same things unanimously, with the occasional slight variations. The REAL good places to get a sandwich… the ones that make the mouth start watering just looking at the menu… Well, many of them are hidden right under our noses at a local tavern or diner.
Here are 9 of Kentucky’s best places to get a unique sandwich:
9. Big Dipper in Owensboro has amazing burgers, ham sandwiches, BLTs, Tuna Salad, Big Boys, Pimento sandwiches… AND hand dipped malts. The place itself is reminiscent of old fashioned diners, and the food is just as good.

8. Bungalow Joe’s offers a variety of amazing burgers, sandwiches, and other delicious dishes, including burgers, fish, chicken, quesadilla, and steak.

7. Five Guy’s Burgers and Fries in Lexington make their burgers to order, and server free peanuts while you wait.
6. Bunz is in the Louisville Highlands and offers homemade buns with unique burger combinations from California burgers to Baxter Avenue Burgers. They also do a fine chicken sandwich.

5.The Game restaurant in Louisville features burgers made from antelope, kangaroo, Elk, and more. They specialize in exotic meats.

4 Meadowthorpe Café in Lexington offers some fantastic burgers, and sandwiches, like the Spalding with a donut like bun.

3. Havana Rumba in Louisville near Shelbyville offers authentic Cuban cuisine from fried bananas to pastry like sandwiches and delicious soups.

2. Red Robin in Middletown offers so many varieties of burgers and other sandwiches it's impossible to “not” like at least one.

1. Zola Pub and Grill in Covington has turkey, vegetable, burger, chicken, fish, and more on their menu, along with pizza!

There are plenty of other great places to dine all across the Bluegrass State, but these all offer something unique; from donut buns to a special sauce. Of course, most of them serve a regular old cheeseburger, for those not looking for anything out of the norm. However, for anyone who wants a sandwich that they'll never forget, try any one of these restaurants. Oh, and don’t forget about those hand dipped malts and special sides!
