If you're sightseeing from your car more than on foot, then you'll love a drive like this. Some of the best scenery in Western Kansas is ready to drive through on the Smoky Valley Scenic Byway. This short drive doesn't take long by itself, but all the stops for photos makes this short trip a real adventure.
Today's adventure leads us through the Smoky Valley Scenic Byway, a stunning drive through some of western Kansas's best scenery.
The direct road from WaKeeney to Ogallah is a short one if you travel as the crow flies, but we aren't doing that.
There are many spots along the road that we think you'd enjoy, and no one will judge you if you pull off to take photos. We just want you to enjoy the ride!
Today, we're headed from WaKeeney to Ransom, then Brownell, and then Ogallah. Adventure time!
After Brownell, you'll take 147 north to Ogallah, which is a beautiful road with plenty of terrain changes. Who said Kansas was flat?
Some big highlights of the trip include Threshing Machine Canyon, Cedar Bluff State Park and reservoir, The Christmas City of the High Plains (WaKeeney), as well as seasonal wildflowers and rock outcroppings galore.
We hope you can take this byway and turn it into an adventure for your chosen travel buddies.
