Historically, Kansas hasn’t exactly known as a hotbed of fine dining. Sure, we have some elegant places to eat here in the Sunflower State, but like many places in the Midwest, we’re primarily known as a meat-and-potatoes, simple-eats type of place. All of that has been changing over the last few years, and you can now find quite a few fine dining restaurants in Kansas. One of our favorites is The Burning Barrel in Lecompton, KS. It’s set in a tranquil farm atmosphere that feels so quintessentially Kansas, but features upscale, elegant food that wouldn’t be out of place in Los Angeles or New York City. Check it out:

The Burning Barrel is an incredibly unique spot. The restaurant is on a farm and features origin dining in an outdoors setting. It's under a roof, but open to the air, and there are fans and propane heaters to make you more comfortable in extreme weather.

Menus are set with either three or five courses, lasting from two to three hours.
