If you are searching for the safest cities in Kansas, a recent report from Safewise provides your answer. This report uses the most recent FBI crime data to determine its findings. Here’s a brief overview of this detailed report.
If you're wondering, "Is Kansas safe?," you're in luck because it really is! While there are many places to call home in the Sunflower State, the 10 safest cities in Kansas to live are Valley Center, Basehor, Goddard, Scott City, Mission Hills, Leawood, Gardner, Lindsborg, Rose Hill, and Louisburg.
Valley Center, the number one safest city on the Safewise list, saw 6.1 fewer property crime incidents year-over-year. However, Scott City claims the title as the city with the lowest property crime rates. In the last year, only 14 property crime incidents were reported.
To keep property safe, 59% of Kansans report they take extra precautions to protect their property. Approximately 28% of those individuals say they use guard dogs to reduce property crime. Even in the safest towns in Kansas, things like that can occasionally come up, so it's good to be prepared just in case.
According to the Safewise survey, 41% of Kansans report they are worried about violent crimes. This is higher than the national average of 33%. In the Sunflower State, there are 4.1 violent crimes for every 1,000 residents. Aggravated assault is the most common violent crime in Kansas.
We must give a massive shout-out to both Basehor and Mission Hills. Only one violent crime was reported in each town in the past year. No wonder they are on the list of the 10 safest places to live in Kansas.
Despite some higher crime rates in Kansas, 58% of those surveyed said they felt safe living in the Sunflower State. The overall concern over violent crime, property crime, and gun violence is also much lower than the national average.

We're all taught from a young age to be wary of poison ivy in Kansas, but there are several other poisonous plant species it's worth keeping an eye out for.
Giant hogweed is not native to the United States at all, it comes from Eurasia. It was originally introduced to the U.S. as an ornamental plant thanks to its pretty flowers, but it's now considered an invasive noxious weed.
However, it can also be quite dangerous. Skin contact with the plant's sap can cause your skin to be unable to protect itself from sunlight. This can lead to severe burns.
If you find giant hogweed, make sure to protect your skin and face with long-sleeved clothing, glasses, and a face mask before applying pesticides or digging up the plant.
It's important to not use a weed whacker, as that will only spread the sap around more.
