The Sunflower State is renowned for many things, but we have to say that we’re not particularly known for seafood restaurants in Kansas. As a landlocked region miles away from the ocean, fish and shrimp are not the first foods to come to mind when you think of Great Plains delicacies. You may be surprised to learn that right in the heart of Kansas is a delicious fresh seafood market and restaurant. Mad Jack’s Fresh Fish is the epitome of a no-frills fish market in Kansas City, but it serves up deliciously fresh seafood worthy of the coast!
Mad Jack's is tucked away on State Avenue. Big Eleven Lake, a small three-acre man-made reservoir, is a few blocks away, but otherwise, there's not much aquatic in this inner-city area!
Here, you'll find a surprisingly large selection of fresh fish. This is one of our favorite fish markets in Kansas.
Mad Jack's has been a staple of the Kansas City area for more than three decades, and it's easy to see why when you see the variety offered here.
Shrimp and oysters may not be common residents of Kansas, but you can find them fresh here!
Don't feel like dealing with taking fresh seafood home to prepare it? No worries, Mad Jack's has a small restaurant inside as well. Pick up already-cooked delights like fried fish.
The catfish strips, layered in Mad Jack's signature breading, are a crispy favorite of many.
No matter whether you opt for the fried fish or take home the fresh and cook it yourself, you're in for a real treat!
