The Sunflower State isn’t exactly known for its wooded regions. When most people picture Kansas, they imagine flat prairies and grasslands, with nary a tree in sight. We do have much more of a diverse landscape than many people give us credit for, but, in truth, we are one of the least-forested states. There are lots of great hiking trails in Kansas, but if you find yourself looking for a great shaded trail that winds through acres and acres of woods, you might have a bit of a tough time. Those seeking trails near Overland Park, KS are in luck, though: the Tomahawk Creek Trail in Leawood’s Foxhill South Park is a wonderful hike that’s got quite a bit of trees. It’ll make you feel like you’re in a much more wooded area than Kansas. Check it out:

Foxhill South Park is a six-acre park that's in the Overland Park/Leawood area. It's home to a few picnic tables and has access to the popular Indian Creek biking and hiking trail.

The great trail here that connects to the Indian Creek route is the Tomahawk Creek Trail. At 10.8 miles, it may seem a bit intimidating, but the point-to-point hike is paved and relatively flat.
