When you were a child, did you ever dream of running away to a castle? We may not have Winterfell or Hogwarts here in the Sunflower State, but there are actually plenty of castles in Kansas. For most of us, living in a majestic castle is limited to our dreams, but you can at least enjoy dinner in a castle at Wandering Vine at the Castle in Shawnee, Kansas. As you can guess from the name, this castle restaurant in Kansas is located within a real-life castle. It's a fine dining experience like no other in Kansas.
Caenan Castle was built in 1907 by a dairy farmer who used it as his private residence. It remained in the family for several years before eventually going through several lives: a personal care home, a restaurant, a nightclub, even a haunted house attraction.
The current owners purchased Caenan Castle in 2019 and opened up Wandering Vine after extensive remodeling.
The beautiful ambiance here only adds to the classy feeling of eating in a castle.
Both the lunch and dinner menus are full of unique dishes with locally-sourced ingredients whenever possible.
There are even scheduled themed dinners with prix fixe menus.
There's a large wine selection, with flights available for connoisseurs looking to enjoy multiple vintages.
The beautifully-presented dishes are almost as lovely as the surroundings.
If the weather's nice, eat on the patio for a spectacular al fresco dining experience that's unlike any other in the state.
