They stock every kind of natural sweetener, flour, and baking ingredient. If you need 50 pounds of cane sugar, you can get it here for a lot less than the price at your local grocery store.

Stringtown Grocery is a home gardener's delight. A giant outdoor display of hanging plants, vegetable starts, and seeds is common here in the spring and early summer.
Visitors are as welcome as locals, and according to the Yelp, Facebook, and Google reviews, they are treated with grace and kindness. Stringtown Grocery is a cash-only store, so please be prepared to shop with cash in your wallet.
Their newly expanded hours are great for people who love to shop at this bulk-food mecca.
If you were planning to swing by on your Sunday drive, you'll be disappointed. Be prepared to deal with a crowd on Saturdays, when people come from Iowa City and the surrounding areas to stock up. Most importantly, don't leave the store without buying yourself a treat. The Kalona Bar is a handmade ice cream bar available at the counter for just $1.50.

Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L. Why I Love It: Fact: Airplanes are notoriously dry, dry, dry. No matter how much water I drink both before and during the flight, I always find myself in a hydration deficit for days. The American Civil War began in 1861, and it was in full swing in 1863 when a new hardware store opened in the small town of New Providence, Iowa. That tidbit of history might have been forgotten among all the turmoil and heartbreak of its day except for the fact that the New Providence Hardware Store didn’t close, crumble, and become forgotten in all the years since (although it did burn once).

This hardware store is still open, and you can still step inside to cool off (or warm up, depending on the season).
Add this store to your bucket list, and enjoy exploring a portion of the charming community of New Providence, whose population, which hovers a little above 200, is still less than it was in 1900! Some things don’t change very quickly!
