Iowa has many "one-horse towns" - and some of them might not even have one horse! We've got a lot of wide-open spaces in the Hawkeye State, and that's part of the charm. One of the tiniest of small towns in the state is definitely Turin, Iowa, known as the Heart of the Loess Hills. This beautiful prairie town only has a population of 72 people, with most of them heading to nearby Onawa for food and shopping. But it's known as one of the best towns in Iowa for simply exploring. That's because in 1955, Turin was home to an amazing historic find in Iowa, the discovery of the Turin Man, then believed to be the oldest human remains ever found in Iowa! For a short time, Turin was the center of the archaeological world in the Hawkeye State, and you can still find reminders of this around the area today when you visit this small town in Iowa.
