When it comes to beautiful vacation destinations in the United States, it's not terribly often that you find yourself reading about places in the Midwest - but we think that's pretty unfair. It's unfair to the beauty of the American Midwest, and it's unfair to you to enable you to skip out on some of the most beautiful places you otherwise never would have known existed. For example, if you're looking for a truly unique place to stay in Indiana, you might want to head to beautiful West Baden Springs and check out the Lost River Hostel. It is 100% Indiana rustic charm, and it's surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the whole state.
Lost River Hostel is an experience you will never, ever forget.
If you're a fan of glamping and community, you'll fit right in here - it is a hostel, after all, and when you book a stay at a hostel you're booking an experience as part of a small, tight-knit community.
There are numerous accommodation options around here, but our favorite is The Pop Top - a treehouse perched 30 feet above the ground in a large, mature poplar tree.
It's not for the faint of heart; it sways in the breeze and, according to the fine folks at Lost River Hostel, will rock you to sleep.
Of course, if heights are a dealbreaker for you, no worries - stay in one of the other options.
This place has a rustic, vintage, outdoorsy feel. It calls itself an "adventure hostel", and we can absolutely agree with this assessment.
The hostel is nestled deep in the woods of West Baden Springs, Indiana, and there's plenty to see and do in the 29 beautiful acres that make up the grounds.
Take a dip in the Clay Lagoon, and then head to the best part of the day: a family-style, home-cooked dinner, where all the guests are welcome to come dine together as a community. This part might seriously be better than the treehouse... maybe.
Despite the incredible awesomeness that is the Lost River Hostel, stays are typically well under $100 per night.
To make up for the value pricing, guests are asked to do a simple chore in the mornings to help run the hostel - after all, while you're here, you're part of a little neighborhood in the woods.
If you're looking for luxury and time to yourself, this is probably not the place for you.
But if you don't mind making new friends, having new experiences, and opening your mind, you'll love your time at Lost River Hostel.
