Hey, Hoosiers, great news: Indiana is home to more than 100,000 acres of publicly-owned lakes and ponds. Of these lakes, 19 of them are natural (and over 500 acres in size). They're popular among locals and visitors alike, and if you were to ask us what our favorite lakes in Indiana are, we might not be able to answer all at once. After all, there are lots - but this lake isn't one of those bigger ones. It's not one of those ultra-popular ones, either, and you know what? We think that's kind of a bummer, because it's quite the delight, especially when the weather is warm. Hoping to beat the crowds? Check out Witmer Lake in Indiana, a crystal-clear natural lake nestled in the northern part of the state.
Witmer Lake is the fifth and final lake of the Indiana Lakes Chain, a five-lake chain of lakes all connected by the Little Elkhart River.
It is not enormous, encompassing only about 204 acres. At its deepest, Witmer Lake reaches depths of up to 80 feet. This depth makes it perfect for a few things, like summertime recreation.
Witmer Lake is open not just to swimming but to power boating, fishing, and just plain admiration.
Bring your family's favorite aquatic recreation gear, because you're in for an epic time. Of course, you'll want to pack lots of sunscreen and drinking water - avoid heat sickness and stay safe on the water!
Witmer Lake is considered an "all-sports" lake alongside its sibling, Dallas Lake.
The water is very clean, and has a nice chill to it even during the hottest months. It's well-known among locals for its cleanliness, which is a point of pride for those who live around Witmer Lake and in the surrounding area.
Other fun stuff to do at Whitmer Lake in Indiana are things like canoeing, wakeboarding, water skiing, tubing, and so much more!
If none of these activities strike your fancy, no worries - there's plenty of room for simply curling up beside the water with a good book, too.
Arrive early to enjoy the sunrise, and then stay until sunset for a real treat.
Few things are quite as relaxing and chill as drifting aimlessly on a pontoon boat, watching the sun go down and paint vivid color across the sky. Witmer Lake is the perfect place for doing exactly this - you won't regret it for even a moment.
After all, who could regret sights like these?
