One of the oldest methods of modern transportation is the train. It's a tried-and-true adventure, having been around for hundreds of years at this point, though it was eventually made (nearly) obsolete by the popularity of personal vehicles. Of course, there are still some folks out there keeping the rail traditions alive, and Indiana is home to one particularly delightful one: the Whitewater Valley Railroad is a scenic train ride in Indiana worthy of a summertime day trip. We think you'll adore the scenery, shopping, and overall unique experience this excursion has to offer, and we think you ought to check it out for a relaxing summer afternoon here soon:
The Whitewater Valley Railroad is a living, locomotive legend in Indiana that's played a key role in the state's history.
It runs all sorts of fun rides and adventures all year, from Easter-themed excursions in the spring to the Polar Express at wintertime. During the summer, though, the train embarks upon a fun-filled, scenic thrill ride from Connersville to historic Metamora, Indiana.
The rail line originally reached Connersville in 1867, and as the future of train travel became less and less relevant, so too did the line.
Determined to save this little slice of history, the line between Connersville and Metamora was acquired by the Whitewater Valley Railroad in 1984. The rest is history: today, you can still enjoy this old train on one of Indiana's most scenic adventures!
You'll depart from Connersville and head to Metamora on the most scenic route possible.
Whisk past rolling, green fields, gorgeous farmlands and other wonder-filled aspects of the Indiana countryside. When you reach Metamora, you'll have two hours to explore and enjoy.
Check out the old grist mill (which is still a working mill), and enjoy the multitude of unique shops, eateries, and galleries.
Learn about the fascinating history of this railway, and other intriguing aspects of our locomotive-centered past. You'll be amazed at just how much there is to learn about the rail and the valley - all while immersed in stunning scenery.
Of course, the Whitewater Valley Railroad offers more than just the Connersville/Metamora Line.
There are also delights like an old wild west ride, the Civil War special, Metamora Canal Days Limited, and more. During holiday seasons you'll find the Easter ride, Halloween-themed delights, and even a Christmas train.
A day spent on the Whitewater Valley Railroad is a day well spent, if you ask us.
It's the perfect mixture of scenery, history, and small-town charm that you're sure to love. We're not sure there's a better way to kill a summer afternoon!
The scenic Connersville/Metamora line runs on Saturdays and Sundays from May through October. Be sure to visit the official railroad website for the most up-to-date pricing, schedules, and more. Don't forget to check out the other adventures offered by Whitewater Valley Railroad, too!
