Hidden in the pretty little town of Lafayette, Indiana is a spot known as Happy Hollow Park. This gorgeous, 81-acre slice of heaven is one of those hidden gems only the locals know about, and it's probably one of my favorite places to visit in Indiana during the fall. Why? Well, the answer is simple (and lovely): the fall colors in Indiana are at their best in this little park. So, skip the crowds at all the state parks in Indiana and head instead to Lafayette's secret paradise for a fall color bonanza you'll never forget.
Happy Hollow Park is a particularly wonderful place during the transitional seasons.
In the spring, it bursts back to life in stunning greens and golds, with plenty of wildflowers and wildlife to observe as well.
But in the fall, the park comes alive in another way.
This time, the trees and shrubberies are transitioning into winter mode, and as a result, they are ablaze with incredible, vivid color.
There are hiking trails weaving through the park, and this is by far the best way to admire this amazing display of natural brilliance.
There's something special about connecting with nature on foot. This quiet, beautiful little park is an excellent place to do exactly that.
Arrive in the early morning during the week for best results.
Understandably, traffic to the park increases at this time of year for obvious reasons, so please be respectful of the space.
You never know what you'll find.
From gorgeous, golden leaves like something out of a painting to an incredibly beautiful, crisp blue sky overhead that never ends, Happy Hollow Park might just be the best hidden gem for viewing fall colors in Indiana.
Come around sunrise (or sunset, though that'll be more crowded) and discover the majesty of these colors during golden hour.
Bring a camera; the incredible landscapes set themselves up - all you've got to do is do it justice when you photograph it.
Happy Hollow Park is an excellent alternative to crazy-busy Indiana state parks at this time of year...
...so plan your trip today and get there early!
