1. Lowell

You can find this safe town all the way in the northwestern corner of the state and it boasts a population of roughly 9,500 people. When in Lowell, you won't have to worry about getting murdered or robbed. Vehicle theft, assault, and burglary rates are on the decline, meaning this cozy town is continually becoming a safer place to call home.

2. Auburn

Murder and robbery are two crimes the people of Auburn never worry about. Vehicle theft and assault are also two crimes that are fairly rare. Auburn is known for being the Home of the Classics. You can find this comfortable little city near the northeast corner of the Hoosier State.

3. Nappanee

Nappanee has a population of fewer than 7,000 people and is a town in Indiana where murder is not really a problem. The rate of assault and robbery is also very low. Interestingly enough, tornados tend to kill and cause more damage than people do in this city.

4. Tell City

On average, there are less than 24 violent crimes and 120 property crimes reported in Tell City each year. It is easy to see why Tell City is one of the best small towns in Indiana.

5. Bargersville

Bargersville is a very small town that stretches across just 1.1 square miles of space. This small space doesn’t really leave a lot of room for people to commit crimes. In fact, it's pretty rare to see any violent crimes committed in the town. Property crime rates are also fairly low in this small community.

6. Zionsville

If you’ve ever talked to someone who lives in Zionsville you'll notice one thing — they love their small town and will constantly brag about it. Residents claim that Zionsville is one of the safest places to live in Indiana and they aren't wrong. This small town not only boasts one of the lowest Indiana crime rates but it is also one of the lowest in the United States.

7. Westville

Westville is a popular living choice if you're looking for a lot of activities. It has a small town charm that you're not going to find in many other places. It's also conveniently located near a number of great cities with a lot to offer. This is also a semi-rural area that is perfect and peaceful for someone who is looking to get away. Crime is slightly more likely here than some of the other towns and cities on our list, but only by a small percentage.

8. Carmel

Carmel is recognized as one of the safest and fastest-growing communities in the entire state. In fact, this city has earned a lot of kudos and honors for being one of the safest and most beautiful places to live in Indiana. It was even recognized in previous years as one of the top ten cities for children in the United States. With nearly 100,000 people living here, the fact that is has lower crime rates is pretty incredible.

9. Fishers

Fishers is a city that makes an effort to know what the citizens want and need for a better quality of life. Unsurprisingly, Fishers is not a place where violent crimes (or any crimes) frequently happen.

10. St. John

St. John is known for being a family-friendly place to live in Indiana. They have many sprawling suburbs that are all peaceful and safe. While this small town doesn't have the lowest crime rates on our list, it's still one of the best small towns in the state and one where your safety should not be a worry.

11. Decatur

Decatur is a community that has a very bright and growing future. This is a city where you never need to worry about walking down the street or cutting through back alleys. The low crime rates make it an excellent place to raise a family in Indiana.
