When it comes to things like arcades in Indiana, a lot of folks would likely be surprised: we have a handful of them peppered around the state, and they're all cool in their own ways. However, an Indiana staple known as 16-Bit Bar+Arcade is a step above most, with an undeniably retro feel that will make you feel like you've gone back to a simpler time in life when video games were all that occupied our afternoons.
16-Bit has been a hit throughout the Midwest, with locations in Indianapolis as well as Ohio and a few other states.
All of the locations are awesome, but we feel like the Indy one is special. Of course, we might be biased.
One of the first things you'll notice upon walking in, other than the literal scores of games as far as you can see, is the bar.
16-Bit has revolutionized the "barcade" industry, proudly boasting a drink menu as diverse and ever-changing as their game selection.
In fact, 16-Bit is home to more than 30 old-school, classic arcade games, as well as bunches of pinball and foosball.
We're pretty sure that no matter what generation you're from, you'll find games that will transport you right back to the good ol' days.
There's more than just craft beers at the bar, too - take your pick from any one of their colorful, creative and themed mixed drinks.
It's a perfect combination of childhood nostalgia and adulthood favorites. Grab your favorite IPA and then go kill it at Pac-Man. Or maybe Duck Hunt, or Super Mario Brothers. The list goes on forever.
Whether you come in by yourself or bring a bunch of friends, you're sure to have a great time.
Better still, all the arcade and console games are free to play. That's right, no tokens, no tickets - just free and fun. The foosball and pinball games are a little more traditional, though, and they cost one dollar to play. Sounds fair to us!
Whether you're an impassioned video game aficionado or just mildly curious about what kind of fun a barcade can be, there's certainly something here for everyone.
The hours at the Indy location are Tuesdays through Fridays, from 4 p.m. to midnight. Saturday and Sunday, it's open from noon to midnight, and they're closed on Mondays. Hey, even the most passionate gamer needs a rest sometimes!
Wondering where some of these other arcades in Indiana we speak of are? This article is about another Indy arcade with more than 100 vintage games!
