As you know from our Indiana winter predictions for 2018/19, the upcoming seasons are expected to be much more mild than usual. This means more comfortable weather for you to go out and view the changing leaves this autumn.
According to researchers at Smoky Mountains, most of Indiana will at least begin to see some change in the leaves by the week of October 1, 2018. The entire stare will certainly be witnessing the change by the following week.
The absolute best times to enjoy the fall foliage will be around the weeks of October 22-29, 2018 for the north, while the southern portion of the state will see the best foliage in the weeks of October 29 through November 5, 2018.
Settling in a bit later than last year, the best time of the season to enjoy the outdoors this year will be the end of October. According to these fall foliage predictions, this is a great time for camping, hiking, or visiting an apple orchard.
Leaves change during this time of year because trees take in less chlorophyll, making the leaves show their true colors. Trees go into hibernation during winter to avoid the harsh temperatures, and to do so, they shed their leaves by cutting off their nutrient supply until they fall off.
