It's that time of year again; the birds are singing each and every morning, sunlight lasts just a little longer each day, and the Indiana cherry trees are in vibrant bloom. Color explodes from every corner of most Indiana neighborhoods as our trees and shrubs come bursting back to life after an entire season of dormancy. There's another tradition around here, though, that comes with spring in Indiana as well; it's one that many folks look forward to each and every year with anticipation. It's the annual Fort Wayne Cherry Blossom Festival in Indiana, and it's one of the best cherry blossom festivals in Indiana. Let's take a closer look at this cherry blossom festival in Fort Wayne.
On May 19, 2024, the Walb Student Union will hold the annual Fort Wayne Cherry Blossom Festival, honoring the culture and cuisine of Japan (among many other wonderful things).
As soon as you arrive, it's obvious why this is one of the largest festivals of its kind in the Midwest; it's astonishingly huge and amazingly diverse, with plenty of facets from Japanese traditions, culture, media, and more ready to be explored.
It's short and sweet - only six hours long - and there's a LOT to do crammed into that short span of time!
Enjoy games like the "goldfish catch" and then try your hand (or, rather, your voice) at karaoke; learn about traditional Japanese dance, dress, and so much more! Seriously, when you think of Japan, what comes to mind? No matter what it is, you'll find it in abundance at the annual Fort Wayne Cherry Blossom Festival.
Another can't-miss part of the festival? The vendors!
Waste no time in checking out the alley of artists, creators, crafters, and so much more, all offering their one-of-a-kind wares to visitors at the festival.
Despite its somewhat short timespan - again, just six hours - this festival often manages to be the hottest thing on the block every time it comes about.
There are hundreds, if not thousands, of attendees every year, and it's easy to see why. It's not every day you can find all your favorite parts of Japanese culture and life right here in Fort Wayne!
Other fun stuff to look forward to includes traditional Japanese folk dancing, martial arts shows, and even lessons on how to grow and cultivate bonsai trees.
Hear beautiful traditional Koto music. Learn about the various delights of Anime and Anime music. Seriously, the event organizers work hard each and every year to bring the best, most authentic Japanese fun to Hoosiers right here at home, and even if it's not quite your thing, we promise it just might be by the time you leave.
The Fort Wayne Cherry Blossom Festival in Indiana is on May 19, 2024, from noon to 6 p.m.
There is no admission cost! Arrive early, though - space is limited to a capacity set by the library itself, so getting there first ensures you'll get in as soon as it opens.
