You might have heard of Indiana's best amusement park, but did you know that said park also has an epic campground? Honestly, we feel like it might just be the best camping in Indiana. It sits in the shadow of Indiana Beach, often being overlooked by tourists because they don't even realize it's there. Locals, however, know all about it, and they couldn't love it more! It's the delightful Indiana Beach campground, and it's a blast and a half attached to the best waterpark in Indiana!
Lake Shafer is located in Monticello, Indiana, and it's one of two reservoirs in the area.
It's sparkling, blue, and chilly year-round.
Lake Shafer is probably best known for Indiana Beach Amusement Park, which sits right on top of it. It's the best water park in Indiana... at least we think so!
Also alongside the lake, though, is an epic campground that one could essentially call an "outdoor resort"; it has hundreds of campsites - primitive and modern - and more amenities than you could ever imagine.
There are so many options to choose from just for camping, let alone all the other fun stuff.
Take your pick of tent sites (with or without electricity and hookups), RV sites with the works, quaint cabins, fancier cabins, and more. No matter what your taste in camping is, Indiana Beach Campgrounds has you covered.
There is also a KOA, so if you prefer staying on the grounds of those, you're still golden.
Don't have a tent? Not to worry. The campsite has tents available with varied amenities. Make sure to check the Indiana Beach website for the most up-to-date information on tent rentals and options.
So, other than camping, what is there to do?
In one word? PLENTY. In another? TONS. If you're not a fan of lake swimming, there's a pool you can lounge in instead. There is also a dog park, wifi, mini golf, plenty of fishing, and so much more.
There are some pretty unique amenities onsite as well.
Campers also get a discount on tickets to the amusement park, as well as transportation from the campground to get you there.
The grounds are busiest on the weekends, so plan accordingly.
The campgrounds are open from May to the end of October, so there's plenty of time during the year to enjoy the scenery and amenities.
For a full list of amenities, more pictures, reservations, pricing, and more, be sure to visit the official Indiana Beach Campground website.
