How often have you wondered, "Is there a waterfall near me?" There is a waterfall trail in Goreville, Illinois that is simple and sweet. (Also, see this article that includes other trails with waterfalls!) If you love extraordinary waterfall hikes, you'll definitely love this one. Don't miss a chance to check it out:
Situated in the Shawnee National Forest, the Ferne Clyffe Waterfall Trail is a little-known path within a state park that is one of many in this southern region of the state.
Tucked away in an area of the Land of Lincoln where rock bluffs and valley abound, this deep forest hike is a two-mile loop trail that is easy enough to traverse for just about any skill level.
Though the paths are not paved, they are mostly flat. Narrow and leading past various rock formations, a true adventure is in store for anyone who chooses this trek.
The most rewarding aspect is the big beautiful waterfall that you will find along the path. Some choose to climb the rock formations around it and play in the water that runs off the cliffs.
The falls are fairly mighty throughout the year, though spring and summer bring the most water and best sights.
Paths around the waterfall encourage guests to climb the rocks and see the falls from all angles. You'll surely remember this hiking trip for a long time.
Nature lovers won't want to pass up this state park in the Shawnee. Adventure awaits around each corner.
