Chicago is one of the best cities in the world, and one famous for many things. From Willis Tower (real ones know to still call it the Sears Tower) to Buckingham Fountain, the Bean, Italian beef, and more — there is no shortage of must-do activities when visiting. Especially downtown, there are countless attractions that could fill an entire day. But the people who live in Chicago often say that the real fun begins in the city's network of neighborhoods, where many hidden gems lie in plain sight. And, one of these special secrets is actually home to what many have said is the best burger in Chicago, Illinois.
For more than 50 years, Moody's Pub at 5910 N. Broadway in Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood has been a staple for locals and visitors alike.
The unique building was designed in the style of a German beer garden, leaning on wood, stone, and brick for its iconic look. From the street, you'd almost never know that behind this wall is a huge patio filled with hungry diners.
Moody's is beloved for its expansive patio, which has lights strung across a canopy of trees to provide shade in the summer and ambiance in the evenings.
Its hidden patio is so big, there are two levels and three dining areas. On summer nights, it's usually full.
But its other claim to fame is its Moodyburger — a hearty half-pound burger complete with a thick ring of fresh-cut white onion, tomato, and lettuce.
Of course, a pickle spear and hand-cut french fries round out the classic dish.
The Moody Bleu Burger is among the fan favorites, which adds a generous scoop of creamy bleu cheese to the patty.
Over the years, Moody's says it has earned the distinction of having one of the city's best burgers by the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, and Chicago Magazine.
You can also have American, Swiss, or cheddar cheese. Pro tip: Add bacon, too — you'll thank us after your first bite.
Those who wish for something "lighter" can enjoy Moody's Sizable Salad, which combines bits of bacon, diced onion, cherry tomatoes, parmesan cheese, and crunchy croutons. Go for the chicken or steak addition to really amp it up.
Customers also go crazy for Moody's fresh fried onion rings, which come by the plate-full.
Other must-haves for your order include Moody's famous sangria with fresh fruit or a cold beer — both of which are usually ordered in pitchers.
In the winter, diners move inside to the charming candle-lit dining room. It features beautiful woodwork, red leather booths, and two fireplaces to keep you — and your burger — warm all night.
The menu also switches between a summer menu and a winter menu, giving you a few more dinner options during the colder months.
