One of the most popular hiking trails in all of Illinois is the Little Grand Canyon Trail in southern Illinois. It is part of the Shawnee National Forest.
Known as not too hard and not too easy of a trail to hike, this three-mile loop path is accessible year-round and attracts people for several different reasons.
There are many unique views along the way that stun guests. The rock formations, waterfalls, and other views are incredibly impressive.
Parts of the trail let you climb down the creek bed and into the canyon. You'll feel as if you've entered an entirely different world when you come here.
The Little Grand Canyon Trail has its own special entrance off of its own road in a remote area in the town of Pomona near Murphysboro.
Some bluffs along the trail reach as high as 300 feet, and you can climb waterfalls like steps.
The best times to visit are during spring when the wildflowers are in bloom or during the fall when the red, orange, and yellow foliage are peaking.
The place is typically open between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. or between sunrise and sunset.
