Once winter is officially over, Illinoisians are bursting to get outdoors. With so many incredible parks, lakes, and miles of rolling country, camping is often one of the first things we think of. I grew up in rural Northern Illinois and spending an evening next to the campfire under the night sky was something I looked forward to every year. Little did I realize then that possibly the best RV campground in Illinois was right in my backyard. Sycamore RV Resort might just be the most epic campground in Illinois, and it’s once again open for its season running through spring, summer, and fall.

What Are The Best Nature Spots Around Sycamore?

  • Leon D. Larson Memorial Park is a charming county park located near a residential neighborhood, with cornfields in the distance. It's a great spot for daily recreation, but there's one time when you'll want to make sure to pay a visit. That's the fall when this park is absolutely stunning with fall foliage. There's a small trail near the Larry Steczo Outdoor Education Center that provides the best view of the leaves, and also has some play areas and educational opportunities for the kids.
  • The Kishwaukee River spans over 63 miles, and Sycamore is one of its many spots. That's where you'll find a charming cove filled with lilies, perfect for relaxing, reflecting on nature's beauty, and going fishing. The river is muddy, but is great for summer fun. Not only do countless fishermen make it their home on good fishing days, but you'll also see many people coasting down the laid-back river on inner tubes.

What Are The Best Places To Eat In Sycamore?

  • Sycamore Parkway Restaurant is one of those classic small-town diners where many regulars have been there for decades and the waitstaff knows their orders by heart. The place greets you with beautiful landscaping, including seasonal flowers, as soon as you arrive. Some of the specialties include breakfast skillets, each topped with a fried egg, and delicious homemade soups. Make sure you don't leave without one of the homemade cinnamon rolls!
  • Cassie's Popcorn Stand is a tiny stand-alone snack kiosk known for its distinct red building. While this little red shack has been operating since 1924, the current owners have been in business since 1981. No surprise, the speciality here is popcorn - in every flavor you can imagine! Sure, there's caramel, butter, and cheddar, but have you ever tried cookies-and-cream popcorn? How about birthday cake? Or bacon? You won't be able to go back to plain after a visit here.
