A Chicagoland favorite since 1982, Robinson's No. 1 Ribs has been in business since it won Ribfest in the same year. Organized by famous columnist Mike Royko who claimed he had the best BBQ recipe in the world, the event was easily won by Charlie Robinson with his undeniably superior ribs.
This legendary contest had 400 entrants, and Robinson was the clear winner. Mike Royko (1932-1997) was a columnist most famous for his witty words in the Chicago Tribune.
One of eight children, Robinson brought his recipes, heritage, and discipline from Mississippi to Oak Park, Illinois. Over the years, hard work yielded enough success that the business was able to open a second location in Chicago's Loop neighborhood within Union Station.
The original location is where you'll find the Sunday BBQ buffet, sit-down seating, a full bar, and a cozy atmosphere that will make you feel right at home. There are several seating options for your comfort at this place.
All the food at this restaurant is absolutely unforgettable. The BBQ sauce recipe has been handed down for 14 generations over the past 200 years and comes on all the smoked meats.
If you're interested in the BBQ buffet, you'll want to show up on Sundays for lunch between noon and 6 p.m. The cost is $12.95 for you to enjoy all the delicious ribs, pulled pork, wings, and many other southern delights you can fit in your stomach.
Other menu items offered at this famous eatery include catfish, steak, pasta, brisket, burgers, mac and cheese, collard greens, potato salad, and desserts like peach cobbler and sweet potato pie. When it comes to the ribs, you can get baby back and St. Louis style as well as rib tips.
Winning Ribfest 1982 not only led to the opening of the restaurant but also to the bottling of Robinson's addicting BBQ sauce. It is sold in mass for those who can't get enough.
