A weekend getaway is often the best way to relax, unwind, and destress. Fortunately, there are dozens of undeniably fun weekend trips all around Idaho that will give you the break from reality that you desire. Whether you are looking for a solo trip or a fun family escape, consider the following nine places in Idaho where you can have fun all weekend long.
1. Lava Hot Springs Resort, Lava Hot Springs
Lava Hot Springs Resort is the perfect destination whether you come by yourself or you bring the entire family along for a weekend adventure. Spend each day soaking in one of the five different hot spring pools that range in temperature from 102 degrees to 112 degrees Fahrenheit. For a little more excitement, check out the Indoor Aquatic Center and in the summer, you’ll squeal in delight at the Olympic Swimming Complex, complete with waterslides that go right over the highway.
2. Sun Valley Resort, Sun Valley
Sun Valley is not only the oldest ski resort in America, but it is one incredible place to explore all year long. In the winter, you can spend the weekend on the slopes, and in the summer, you can hike, mountain bike, and just enjoy the breathtaking views. Plus, the nearby town of Ketchum is a foodie’s paradise and where you can enjoy some incredible meals during your visit.
3. Route of the Hiawatha
If you are looking for a weekend adventure that involves a great workout and some of Idaho’s most majestic views, a bike ride along the Route of the Hiawatha is an absolute must. This is a rail trail in northern Idaho that is 15 miles and takes you over multiple steel trestles, through tunnels, and into thick forests. There are several access points and even shuttle options that allow you to enjoy the trail without too much extra work.
4. Priest Lake State Park
Priest Lake State Park is one of the most beautiful state parks in Idaho. Here, you can enjoy fabulous hikes and camping opportunities. There is even a natural waterslide for something unique to enjoy during the summer months and the sunrises and sunsets at this state park are breathtaking.
5. Teton Valley
Teton Valley is not only one of the most beautiful destinations in Idaho but it’s also where you can find all types of activities to keep you busy. We highly recommend taking a drive along the Teton Scenic Byway. You can also stop into the many small towns in the area, go for a hot air balloon ride during the warmer months of the year, and even explore the Ashton-Tetonia Rail Trail on bike or foot.
6. Bruneau Dunes State Park
Bruneau Dunes State Park is one of the best year-round state parks in Idaho and one that we simply cannot get enough of. This 4,800-acre state park is where you can camp, hike, or sandboard. It is also home to the tallest free-standing sand dune in North America and boasts one of the longest camping seasons in Idaho.
7. McCall
Located along the southern shore of Payette Lake, McCall is a town with so much to offer and is one destination where you can stay busy all weekend long. Here, you can browse the charming shops along Main Street, eat at one of the tasty restaurants, spend time on the water, visit Brundage Mountain, or simply enjoy the beautiful views at nearby Ponderosa State Park.
8. Harriman State Park
It doesn’t matter the time of year, Harriman State Park is a delightful weekend getaway. In this state park you can do it all — hike, fly fish, snowshoe, cross-country ski, observe wildlife, hike, and so much more. Book a stay in one of the yurts at this state park to create even more memories.
9. Silverwood Theme Park, Athol
Spend the weekend with your entire family at Silverwood Theme Park in Athol. Here, you will find more than 70 attractions for thrill seekers of all levels. You can even spend some time at Boulder Beach, a waterpark with everything from pools to high-intensity slides. Keep in mind that Silverwood Theme Park is only open between May and October each year.
