It's no secret that driving during the wintertime can be a hassle. Once-simple drives can be made extra strenuous when winter comes along with the arrival of snow and ice. It doesn't help that Idaho was recently named one of the most dangerous places for winter driving by SafeWise. It can be scary out there, so everybody should always take extreme caution when traversing the roads this winter. However, there's one highway, in particular, that is known as the most dangerous road not just in Idaho, but the entire country. You may want to reconsider driving on it this winter season and find an alternative route instead.
As the temperatures continue to drop, driving in winter conditions can become riskier and riskier.
According to a report from SafeWise, Idaho is the fourth most dangerous state for driving in the snow, so winter driving should definitely be taken seriously.
The report cited data from the 2016 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration which stated that there were 11 fatalities in which weather was a contributing factor.
These findings were based on the state as a whole, but what road should you specifically be worried about?
It turns out Idaho made another list.
According to a site called Keep Truckin, Idaho is home to one of the worst roads in the country for winter driving: Highway 75, a two-lane highway that travels through the Sawtooth Valley of central Idaho.
Between 2013 and 2016, the U.S. Department of Transportation conducted a study that identified roads across the country with the most number of accidents.
According to the study, Highway 75 is rated the third most dangerous road in America.
Highway 75 is known to be particularly dangerous during the wintertime.
Due to its location and varying levels of elevation, driving on this highway can certainly be a challenge. When you throw snow and ice into the mix, the challenge can become deadly.
You might just want to plan an alternate route if you plan on visiting this part of Idaho this winter season.
