Of all the states I really need to get to for some adventuring, Hawaii is way at the top. You won’t find more natural beauty packed into a small land area than in America’s youngest state. The Hawaiian Islands, measuring in at only 6,423 square miles, are home to boundless wonders, from picturesque valleys and majestic mountain peaks to jaw-dropping beaches and secret gardens. While much of Hawaii can be crowded by tourists, the Sacred Garden of Maliko is so serene and peaceful. Read on to learn all you need to know about what we consider to be one of the most beautiful gardens in Hawaii.
The Sacred Garden of Maliko is one of the most unique destinations in the Aloha State. You'll find this stunning attraction nestled off the beaten path - just two miles below Makawao on the island of Maui.
Do you remember the last time you took a moment to step back, take a breath, and look inward? We know all too well that in today’s modern world, it’s hard to find moments of true peace. At one of the best secret gardens in Hawaii, that’s exactly what you’ll discover.
This non-profit botanical garden features an impressive collection of plants, flowers, living shrines, and artwork. During my visit there, I was blown away by how quickly I was able to relax and be present. Even just looking at these Sacred Garden of Maliko photos make me feel peaceful.
The Sacred Garden of Maliko is also a multi-denominational retreat, offering images of deities from all religions. The intention behind these displays is that visitors can see how spiritual images co-exist in the same place.
Visitors will discover a 600-pound wooden Buddha in the Buddha Garden and an impressive painting of Jesus in the Jesus Garden.
Guests are also welcome to pray, meditate, journal, and read in the Mother Shrine Room when they spend time at what's considered to be one of the most beautiful secret gardens in Hawaii.
The Sacred Garden of Maliko also has two labyrinths that are often used for contemplation to quiet the mind and find inner clarity.
There is a medieval 11-circuit labyrinth outside and a classical 7-circuit labyrinth in the greenhouse. You’re free to walk these labyrinths during daily operating hours, though the monthly Full Moon Walks are quite the experience as well.
The beauty within and surrounding the Sacred Garden is sure to inspire. If you feel compelled to create a garden of your own after spending time at one of the most beautiful gardens in Hawaii, you can visit the nursery to choose from a large variety of tropical plants, succulents, and flowers.
If you're looking to get away from it all — if only for an hour — a visit to the Sacred Garden of Maliko is a must. Serenity and peace await!
