Living in Hawaii, there is plenty to brag about besides the killer weather and beach trips. After all, I see the hashtag #LuckyWeLiveHawaii on Instagram nearly every day. And while we love any excuse to brag about our island home, we especially enjoy bragging about this little slice of paradise in the weeks following the anniversary of Hawaii's statehood. So, without further ado, here are 14 reasons everyone who lives here should be proud of Hawaii.
1. People across the world dream of visiting Hawaii for vacation — which means that we definitely have it all together, right?
2. The Aloha State is the healthiest state in America according to the private poll America’s Health Rankings, and has been in the top six since the rankings began in 1990.
3. Hawaii was ranked second in America in the Gallup Healthyways Well-Being Index, which measures physical and emotional health, well-being, and happiness.
4. The first African American President was born in our great state — and attended Punahou!
.) Hawaii was once a monarchy, which makes for some pretty interesting history.
6. And the only royal palace on United States soil sits in our state’s capitol.
7. Hawaii is steeped with cultural heritage and history just waiting to be discovered.
8. The state of Hawaii is truly is a melting pot of cultures, religions, people, and food.
9. We are the only state with our own native language — and the only state with two official languages: English and Hawaiian.
10. People who live in Hawaii are much more relaxed than those on the mainland and that's got to count for something, right?
11. Though the cost of living here may be outrageous, Hawaii has many options for free entertainment — including the best beaches in the world and amazing hiking trails that criss-cross the state.
12. Hawaii is a frontrunner in the field of astronomy, with one of the country’s most impressive observatories sitting atop Mauna Kea.
13. Punahou School, located in Honolulu, is the largest independent school in the United States. It was also ranked as the “greenest school in America” in 2006. Even if your school rivaled Punahou in high school, it’s still an impressive accomplishment for the state.
14. We live and work in a location that often feels like another country — but we still have the privileges, rights, and benefits of being American citizens. Talk about the best of both worlds.
