Summer in Georgia is truly an amazing time - but let's face it, it's also quite a scorching time! It can feel like Peach State residents spend most of the warm months trying to find ways to stay cool. Fortunately, we've got some amazing parks here where you can relish in all kinds of water-filled fun, whether it's wading in the shallow edges of a river, kayaking at a hidden lake, or catching some rays while the tide rolls in at the beach. The park we're featuring today is tucked away in the small town of Maysville, located in Banks and Jackson Counties just north of Athens. It's home to about 2,000 people and also Hurricane Shoals Park, a 71-acre park that's especially magical in the summertime. Check it out:
This place has everything you love to see in a park, including a playground, disc golf, and even a miniature golf course.
The park's highlight, however, is definitely the close proximity to the water!
The North Oconee River runs right through the park, and there's a large exposed area of granite that's a popular spot for kids to play.
There's a great foot bridge if you prefer to check out the view from mid-river.
Or you can cross the quaint covered bridge when you feel like stepping back in time.
Speaking of peeking into the past, the park houses the Heritage Village, a collection of historic buildings that have been relocated to the park. You'll find a church, corn crib, smokehouse, and more.
This park is a wonderful family outing for a day of summer fun in Maysville, GA.
Please note that dogs, fishing, and alcoholic beverages are not allowed at Hurricane Shoals Park.
Don't forget to pick up some sunscreen before heading out in the summer months - the sun's rays can be brutal on your skin! We recommend Sun Bum from REI.
