It's a sad truth of modern day society that general stores are not as common as they once were. Big corporations seem to be taking over just about everything, and the advance of fast shipping makes internet shopping all-too-convenient and appealing. But that doesn't mean we don't still have some great general stores in Georgia! One of our favorites is the delightfully nostalgic Betty's Country Store in the little mountain town of Helen. This place feels like a step back in time to simpler days, and one of the very best things about the store is that you can also get delicious baked goods at the bakery.
Betty's Country Store is located just past the main area of downtown Helen. This is such a charming little town with plenty of attractions, including lots of locally-owned businesses like this one.
Walk inside and you'll feel like you've entered a time machine. This place feels just like the old general stores that seem to be going extinct nowadays.
Whether you're looking for delicious candies...
...Or want to pick up some freshly-canned jams and jellies, you can find just about anything at this wonderful country store.
In addition to all the Georgia-made products, there's also a section with imported foods from Germany. This is fitting, considering that Helen is designed to look like a Bavarian village and has the largest Oktoberfest in Georgia.
Head back to the bakery array and you'll be overwhelmed by the dessert choices.
From muffins to carrot cakes and cheesecakes, there's a lot to choose from here.
Stop by in the morning and enjoy a cup of coffee with biscuits and gravy.
This wonderful little general store in Georgia is a great spot to grab a bite to eat and take a step back in time.
