The aptly-named Serene18 is a network of water trails encompassing eighteen square miles of paddle-ready adventure. To participate, visitors can order a free passport that outlines 4 unique water trails: Augusta Canal, Betty's Branch, Stallings Island, and Clarks Hill Lake.
You can receive your passport stamps at Keg Creek Water Sports at Wildwood Park, Cole Watkins Kayak Tours, Outdoor Augusta at Riverside Park,
Savannah Rapids Kayak Rental, or the Savannah Rapids Regional Visitor Information Center. These are all great places to learn more about the routes and rent kayaks and gear for your adventure.
When you complete all four trails, bring your stamped passport to the Columbia County Convention and Visitors Bureau office where you'll receive your free commemorative t-shirt.
Please note that for this route, you'll want to plan ahead of time so you can have transportation back to the starting point.
Betty's Branch is another great starting point for beginners. This beautiful stretch of the Savannah River is renowned for its breathtaking flora and fauna. Plan to set aside about 2 hours to complete this 4-mile route.
Stallings Island also happens to be the site where the oldest known Native American pottery was discovered. Please note this area is protected and kayakers must remain in their watercrafts.
Last, but certainly not least, the Clarks Hill Lake trail takes paddlers from Wildwood Park to Clarks Hill Dam, an impressive feat of engineering.
This route spans 6 miles and can take between 4 and 6 hours and is appropriate for novice to intermediate skill levels.

The Iconic Trail in Georgia Everyone Should Hike Once in Their Lifetime
The Etowah Indian Mounds Interpretive and River Walk Trail is a 1.1-mile loop trail that is family-friendly and takes visitors to the earthen mounds of an indigenous community who lived there long ago.
Adventuring to a historic site is a great way to learn about history while reaping the benefits of a hike. Georgia has numerous historic sites that preserve and honor the important places in the state's history. Of critical importance are Georgia's indigenous historic sites. Many tribes lived in the region, including the Cherokee, Creek, Guale, Yamasee, Timucua, Hitchiti, Oconee, Apalachee, and Miccosukke. The Etowah Indian Mounds Interpretive and River Walk Trails is a fantastic hiking trail near Cartersville, Georgia, that honors the indigenous people of the Mississippian culture who lived near the Etowah River.
The trail starts at the Etowah Indian Mounds Historic Site Museum, with a parking lot for visitors. From there, hikers travel southeast to the Etowah River. Following the river, hikers will see beautiful water views. They can also enjoy birdwatching and wildflowers in spring and summer. After following the river, hikers continue north and return to where they started.
Hikers must pay a small entry fee to access the grounds. The trail is a relatively short loop trail at 1.1-miles. It is family-friendly and open year-round. Leashed dogs are welcome.
The loop trail circles an area once home to thousands of indigenous people from 1000 to 1550 A.D. On the 54-acre property, visitors can climb atop earthen mounds, which were immensely significant to the community members who lived there. There are six mounds on the property in total. One mound was dedicated to the burials of noble persons, and another was likely where the priest chief lived. The largest mound is an incredible 65 feet tall; visitors climb more than 100 steps to the top and enjoy an astonishing view of the property below.
In addition to walking the trail and visiting the mounds, visitors can enjoy the site's picnic tables and riverside benches. There's also a bathroom and gift shop.

Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L.
