Blood Mountain in North Georgia is one of the most stunning places you can hike to in the entire state. But before you embark on your journey, you should understand that there are many different ways to get up to the peak of the mountain. However, there is one trail that is most popular with hikers, largely due in part to the surrounding scenery and the creeks and flowers along the way. But even during the colder months of the year, this trail is equally as magnificent.
Blood Mountain via the Byron Reece Trail clocks in around 4.3 miles out and back.
After about three quarters of a mile, you’ll be connected to the Appalachian Trail, which continues up to the peak of the mountain.
Be prepared for quite the trek though, the elevation changes throughout this trailhead are about 3,000-feet between losing and gaining.
But we guarantee that all of the effort you put into this trail will be rewarding in the end.
The trail will reward you in different ways depending on the time of year you visit—for instance spring yields beautiful wildflowers, meanwhile winter will bring about unobstructed views as far as the eye can see.
If you prefer to have the trail more to yourself, then it’s recommended to hike on the weekdays, as during the weekends there will almost always be more hikers in abundance.
Strap on your hiking shoes and prepare your water bottle because this trail requires some grit, but the views in the end will be worth it.
