Laramie is where you'll find some of the best things in Wyoming, including the state's only university, art galleries, museums, and plenty of historic sites - and it's also home to one of the best bars in the country.
The Buckhorn Bar and Parlor is one of those friendly old places you feel comfortable in the first time you visit. The atmosphere is nostalgic Old West and is fun and relaxed. "The Buck," as it's known to locals, is exactly the kind of place you want to go at the end of the day, the end of the week, or anytime you need to unwind and have a good time. Just one time in, and you'll be a regular for life.
The Old Buckhorn Bar and Parlor is at 114 East Ivinson Street in Laramie.
Opened in 1900, it's the oldest standing bar in Laramie and the most historic, too.
The Buck has always tried to stick near its roots as a bonafide western bar - there's even a post outside to hitch your horse (or chain your bike).
It's a natural draw for the college crowd, but it's really a bar that attracts a diverse group.
The Buckhorn is a full-service bar offering beer, wine, and mixed drinks, but the menu also includes the usual bar food that seems to taste best in a place like this.
You'll find the décor relies heavily on taxidermy and includes a two-headed calf...
...and a couple of the largest elk heads in the country.
A bullet hole graces a mirrored wall behind the bar...
...and the goalpost from the UW vs. BYU 1999 game hangs from the ceiling.
Naturally, there's a pool table and a dancefloor in the back. Whether it's a DJ or live band, the Buck is known for great music.
Sometimes when the weather is right, the party even spills out into the street.
The Buckhorn is also known for hosting epic parties.
Laid-back, friendly, and a little quirky, too, the Buckhorn Bar and Parlor is definitely one place that should be on every bucket list.
