Wyoming doesn't have many wineries, and they have even fewer vineyards. In fact, they have one of the smallest wine industries in the country. Wyoming's climate and terrain make it very difficult to grow fruit in this challenging area. Wyoming's climate is extreme, meaning it is either very hot and dry in the summer or very cold in the winter. The only grapes grown in this area are called hybrid grapes. Hybrid grapes are the only fruit that can withstand harsh winters and dry, hot summers. Even though there are very few wineries in Wyoming, there are four that every wine connoisseur should visit.
1. Buffalo Jump Winery, LLC
Buffalo Jump Winery was one of the first wineries in Wyoming. They serve both delicious wine and sumptuous food. They make their wine from some of the highest quality grapes from Washington, Oregon, and California. Some of their red wines include Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Rosé, Grenache, Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. Their white wines include Chardonnay and Riesling. To mix a little bit of fun in there too, they also offer Sip & Paint gatherings. The winery is located on Beck Avenue in Cody.
2. Jackson Hole Winery
Jackson Hole Winery is owned and run by Anthony Schroth. It is situated on his family's property next to Spring Creek at the base of the Grand Tetons in Jackson. Their grapes come from California's Napa and Sonoma Valleys. While the grapes come from elsewhere, the wine is produced and stored at the winery in Wyoming. Their wine specialities include Rendezvous Red, Russian River Valley Chardonnay, and Catch & Release.
3. Table Mountain Vineyards
Table Mountain Vineyards is owned by Patrick Zimmerer and his family and is located in Huntley. Their wines are made with cold hardy hybrid grape varieties that can survive the Wyoming climate. They also produce fruit and honey wine made from fruit grown in Wyoming. All wines are made from fruit that is 100% Wyoming produce. Some of their pure Wyoming wines include Frontenac Gris, Cowgirl Blush, Cowgirl Red, Cowboy Reserve, and Wyoming Gold.
4. Weston Wineries
Weston Wineries purchases west coast grapes and juices and turns them into a unique selection of wine. They use their wines to promote the heritage of the west with labels that represent different regions of the state such as Devils Tower, Yellowstone, Flaming Gorge, and the Tetons. Their wines include 307 unique blends of red and white. Weston Wineries is located on Broadway Street in Sheridan.
