Once you’ve tried one mozzarella stick, you’ve them all, right? Wrong! Chances are, you’ve never eaten mozzarella sticks like the ones at Alphonso’s. Officially dubbed Lightning Rods, they’re so big that you’ll need two hands to eat them. Seriously, these things are enormous! Take a look:
A tiny eatery that’s sure to make a BIG impression, Alphonso’s (whose official name is Alphonso’s The Original) opened in West Allis back in 2010.
With its popularity only increasing over the past decade, Alphonso’s has quickly outgrown its current location, which is why there are plans to open a second location at 92nd and Greenfield.
But until the second locale opens, you’ll simply have to visit the original Alphonso’s. Be warned, though, a wait is extremely likely because, as we mentioned earlier, it’s a popular spot.
We could go on and on about the incredible selection of pies, which includes 16 specialty pizzas and five unique crust options.
Or we could tell you all about the amazing Fuel-Injected Garlic Bread.
But we’re not going to do that because what we really want to talk about is the pizzeria’s gigantic mozzarella sticks or Lightning Rods.
A big hit (pun intended), they’re handmade using Wisconsin’s finest mozzarella and breaded with an exquisite blend of herbs and seasonings.

You can purchase a full or half order of the oversized mozzarella sticks — either way, the portion size is sure to please.
As you can imagine, the Lightning Rods are an extremely popular item. In fact, the eatery has been bombarded with orders as of late, so patience is key.
It’s also important to keep in mind that Alphonso’s is rather small. The tiny eatery is about the size of a living room and is equipped with just a single deck oven and two fryers.
For more information, call Alphonso’s at (414) 755-0341. You can also visit the eatery’s website or Facebook page.
So, did you know about Alphonso’s? Or about its giant breadsticks? Ever tried them? If so, what’d you think? Tell us in the comments section.
